For others it is a meaningful mentor or accomplished friend. Your celebrant should most importantly be attentive to your desires and a brilliant orator. While you certainly don't want a slick hick chucking out inappropriate comments, be wary of a character that might be too dry and could put your guests to sleep rather then inspiring them about love and commitment. He or she should make time to get to know the bride and groom sufficiently if not already acquainted and to plan his or her words in accordance with your wishes. Remember that it is your celebrant who will lead the ceremony and it is at his or her hand that you shall be bound in matrimony. Choose carefully! The celebrant issue can arise again where interfaith marriages are concerned. One way is to have two ceremonies with a celebrant of each faith present. Alternatively one could have a secular marriage ceremony with a less conventional celebrant. |
